First and foremost, I’d like to point out the obvious and say that the spoilers… they are ahead. Okay. Let’s begin.
Guys. SOLID start to Season 7. Let’s start at the very beginning. Like the “Previously on Game of Thrones” beginning. It was so artsy! With the music, and the green explosions, and Tommen’s suicide, and Cersei being so majestically evil. It was all very good.
Then with that cold open! I feel like in previous seasons of GoT it would have taken us the length of the season to get to that point, of Arya just mass murdering 50+ dudes in one sitting, so the fact that they opened with that scene really set the tone for this season. That tone being, SHIT IS GOING DOWN.
I love how the story is all coming together, and there are so many women in powerful positions. Not even from a feminist standpoint. I mean yes, from a feminist standpoint, of course, but I think in terms of storytelling it’s an interesting twist. It would be easy to position the women as weak, just because of how women were regarded in medieval times. Remember the line “Valar Morghulis” that Arya used to repeat back when she was in Braavos? The translation was “All men must die,” which I think is going to serve as some major foreshadowing. The men will die, and the women will live on to rule.
Final note: Am I the only one who gets SO pumped up by the music that plays during the credits??? Every time they end an episode with a Daenerys mic drop moment, and then the scene cuts to the credits with those drums, I am about to ready to GO. (Except for the fact that at this point it’s 10pm on a Sunday and I have work the next morning. Womp.)
What did you think of the Season 7 premiere? Let me know!
